We recently took a spur of the moment trip to Paris for a romantic break in our usual travel plan. After learning of a week delay before starting our house sit in England, Jarrell suggested to spend our break in France. Paris has always been on our long list of places we want to see on our journey, so we were beyond excited to add this stop to our adventure. I quickly learned that you could travel very cheaply from London to Paris, so we decided to spend a little extra on our apartment. Besides, you only get one first trip to Paris, right?
We found this studio apartment on Airbnb (click here save on your first stay) and I instantly fell in love with its luxury finishes. I mean, the coffee tables light up. You’ll quickly learn when visiting Paris that the airport is a little far from the city center, however, we were lucky to find a great transfer service that took us directly to our apartment.
I really wanted to have a Murphy bed, because I always saw them in Parisian apartments on real estate TV shows. I loved the added space it afforded us during the day.
We decided to stay in the Odeon neighborhood in the Latin Quarter, which was a great location for sightseeing as well as people watching, shopping and eating out.
We wandered in and out of art galleries and even found a wonderful art store down the street from our apartment so that Jarrell could replenish his supplies.
With only a week in Paris, we didn’t do much sightseeing, instead treating it as a romantic vacation between our house sits. Jarrell also had several commissions and I was finishing up my eBook, so we had work to do. However, there was no way I could leave Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower.
We also walked over to the Arc de Triomphe.
If you’re planning to visit Paris, make sure you see The Eiffel Tower during the day and again at night, it’s worth it.
All in all, it was a great first trip to this romantic city and we enjoyed a week in Paris. There are so many neighborhoods and museums I still want to see in the city, so I am sure we will be back. This was an example of traveling at your own pace without expectations or requirements attached to your travels. It’s also an example of keeping a variety in your accommodation methods and lengths. Because we did a two-month house sit in Majorca, Spain followed by a two-month house sit in England, our week in a lavish apartment in Paris was our only accommodation cost for four months. That’s a great way to travel how you want without blowing your budget. There are some places a bare minimum apartment is perfectly fine, Paris is not one of them.
